History

Founds-Feryo Cremation and Burial Services, LLC is honored to be a part of the rich history of this community and plan to be a part of it for many years to come.

Casper P. Hicks, son of William H. and Anna P. Hicks, entered the funeral business on his own resources on April 1, 1928 at 130 W. Market Street, renting the building that had been occupied by Williams and Corcoran: Undertakers, Upholsterers, Rug Cleaners and Awning Makers. He purchased the stately Buckwalter family's civil war era towne home at the corner of South High and East Union Streets in 1932. He renovated and redecorated the property to meet the needs of an expanding trade. The location is still occupied by the funeral home today.

During the 1940's and 1950's, Casper's son-in-law, Oliver P. Founds, was employed at the funeral home. In 1962, Oliver purchased the business and the name became Oliver P. Founds Funeral Home and eventually shortened to Founds Funeral Home, Inc.

In 1988, Oliver's son, Steven C. Founds, who had been working at the business for many years, purchased the business. Steven graduated from Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science and also West Chester University with a degree in Social Work. Steve retired from funeral service in 2021 and currently lives in Ocean City, MD where he is actively pursuing his passion for playing guitar and doing volunteer work.

In 2019, Christopher Feryo, a long time employee and licensed Funeral Director, purchased the business and renamed it Founds-Feryo Cremation and Burial Services, LLC.  Chris is a Westtown resident where he lives with his wife, Kate who is a special education teacher in the WCASD and children: Georgia and William.  He holds a Master's Degree in Thanatology from Marian University, is a 1991 graduate of Mount St. Mary's College (now University) where he majored in Economics and Fine Arts and is also a graduate of Northhampton College with a degree in Funeral Service Education. Chris is a certified celebrant and death doula. Chris is also Certied in Thanatology: Death, Dying, and Bereavement (CT) by ADEC, the Association for Death Education and Counseling.
